Motivation and Meditation: How They Work Together

How do you stay motivated when you are on the grind? It’s usually easy to get started with a new wave of motivation but what happens months down the road when you have years left to achieve your goal? I use meditation to keep my mind calm and reduce mental burnout.

Take a second to look ahead. You do the work day after day, month after month, and year after year just to achieve your goal and realize you have given up your health and you can’t enjoy it. Meditation can bridge that gap. Trust me, whatever amount of time you sit to meditate is not time lost it is a massive gain for you and your goals.

When I started actively pursuing my goals I had trouble sleeping. Most of those sleepless nights were a result of my thoughts never stopping long enough for me to fall asleep. A loop of endless task lists and false fears about what might go wrong. I found a way to help, 10 minutes of meditation before I went to bed made a huge difference. Meditation helped ease that restless mind and led to more consistent sleep. This helped my motivation to get out of bed the next day and move out with the work that needed to be done to reach my goals. I was more focused and clear in my decisions.

Once you get started you have a great cycle going. Meditation clears your mind and helps you focus. That increased focus helps you keep up your motivation. Your increased motivation helps you meditate. Boom, the only thing you need is you!

This is just the tip of the iceberg for what meditation can do for you and your quest. If you need a place to start I have some beginner resources on this site so make sure you check them out.

So what are you waiting for, there is a beast inside you waiting to push you over the limit!

You Are Powerful Beyond Measure. Does that Scare You?

Whatever you are dreaming of is possible. The trouble is people never considered setting goals to help them reach their big dreams. Why? I think there are a few reasons for this. Many people feel they are stuck with what they have and never consider improving themselves or their position. Others consider it but fill their mind with excuses that derail them along the way. Either scenario ends in a victim mentality. The real trouble is, a victim mentality is addicting. Many people need complaints, it has become who they are, and they have nothing else to talk about.

When these people begin to realize that they can achieve their dreams, that their dreams are possible if they are willing to work for it, they get scared. Why? Because they would have to change who they are. If they get everything they want they are not victims anymore and if they don’t get what they want they are to blame, not someone else. Most people want to pass the blame.

What about you? Are you afraid? If so, why? Dig deep and answer yourself truthfully because YOU are the only thing in your way! Go after your dreams… free the beast!

Wandering if it’s possible for you… YES!

This is a powerful quote. At first you think, “what else is there to say? Let’s get to work.” As long as you included, “let’s get to work,”  in your thoughts, you are right. Just in case you didn’t include “let’s get to work.” I have a little more to say.

Impossible, that’s what experts said about the sub 4 minute mile. But Roger Bannister did it. He didn’t believe the hype, he tried harder and worked harder then he did it. The more fascinating thing is the number of people who followed soon after. What happened? Belief, belief happened. The naysayers couldn’t keep up the lie that it was impossible. The cry babies and “It’s to hard” crowd couldn’t stand behind the it’s impossible excuse anymore. There was a break in human belief and for those willing to work hard enough, it became possible.

So, if your wandering if pushing hard on your subject, on your dream, is worth it. If your wondering if taking it past the level of what is currently possible for you is worth it. It is! Not just for you, for human belief. Not just for you, for mankind! Do you want to change the world? Change human belief! Now get to work!

Know someone who needs a little motivation? Send this their way!

Don’t Pursue Their Dreams… Pursue Yours and Find Happiness

If you think your dreams won’t require hard work then you won’t make it. It’s that simple. Here’s the trick, hard work when you are pursuing your dream is incredibly satisfying.

Make sure you are pursuing your dream… not someone else’s. Think hard, is it your dream or your fathers dream? Is it your dream or your friends dream? Find your dream and go after it like your life depends on it.

Benjamin Disraeli said it better than I ever could, “Nothing will withstand the power of the human will if it is willing to stake it’s very existence to the extent of it’s purpose.”

Did you here that? NOTHING can stop you. Not because it’s easy, because you won’t stop! Find your dream, your purpose and get started. Then don’t stop!

No idea what you purpose is? I used a love affirmation to help me sort it out. If you don’t know what to do, pursue this affirmation as if your life depends on it and keep looking for YOUR dream.

The Beast Inside

There’s a beast inside you! Massive potential waiting to get out, waiting to get realized, waiting for you to get started.

The trouble is, most people are afraid of their potential, this beast. They put the beast aside, tell themselves it’s evil, and coast though life. The beast doesn’t go away and it’s not always patient.

I hear you, your saying, “not me, I just a……” Not true, the beast is in you too.

Think about a time when you were alone, perhaps driving your car. You felt something stirring inside, you felt something bigger than you trying to get out. What happened? You squelched it, you turned up the radio and told yourself it’s nothing. Or you pulled over, found a bar and got a drink. YOU buried your potential! YOU buried it, no one else!

Next time you feel something stirring inside you, don’t squelch it, let it take over. You’ll feel the possibilities, you may even feel like you can fly, like your car can’t hold you. Then take action on something you have been putting off, something you have always wanted to do. BOOM, free the beast, take action and watch life turn in your favor. It’s time.

Know Yourself and Nothing Can Stop You!

This is a wonderful truth, as some of you know and others don’t, you are the toughest opponent you will ever face. When you know yourself you can push past the belief that your dreams are not possible.

You may think it’s something out there or someone else that is keeping you down, someone else who says you cant do it. But the truth is that you believe that person, without your belief that outside experience has no power over you. Know yourself, change your belief and take charge of your dreams… take charge of your life.

How I Found True Happiness and How War Started Me Down the Path

The night was dark, an eerie dark that haunted the streets of Iraq. Silence -
the silence lodged in the fibers of our being – paid me a visit on those
streets. This silence didn’t come alone, oh no, it demanded a dramatic entrance.

I was watching the road manifest from the green depths of my night vision
goggles when something happened. I didn’t see a flash or hear an ear deafening
blast, I simply felt silence. An overwhelming silence, stillness, maybe even
peace. At that moment, I was home, more so than ever before. It felt as if I was
outside the restriction of time, I knew something had gone wrong but I wanted
the silence to last forever. I came back to this reality amidst confusion, smoke, and
screaming. A long painful journey followed.

We made it back to our dusty quarters where the others and I received thorough
examination. I was one of the lucky ones. I had a mild concussion and a few
scarps and bruises. Even still, I had to stay awake for a couple hours to be
sure everything was in order. I sat waiting, terrified. Not terrified of war, but terrified of what my mind
might torture me with next. No matter how hard I tried to convince myself I was
a tough rugged man ready to visit violence on my enemies, all I could do was
weep, afraid, afraid of the possibility of peace, and at the same time afraid I
would never experience it again.

I spent years drowning this experience with booze, and pills, whatever it took.
I never stayed alone with my thoughts unless I was properly medicated. Finally,
rock bottom found me in a worn out hotel in North Carolina. I was training for a
job I did not want and trying to keep it all together. What, I asked myself, was
I trying to keep together, a web of lies, hidden addiction? Enough! My blessings showed themselves as an empty checking account. Not having enough
money to pay for my addiction, I began to squirm. Something happened, Instead of
doing something drastic to get the money for another bottle, I faced my fear. I
was finally ready to face my thoughts and demand they stand still and let me
engage the silence again.

Years after this unexplainable silence abruptly introduced itself to me, I
finally stood ready to face it. I began to look for ways to examine war’s
profound silence, the peaceful feeling from that blast. This was not an easy
task; revelation did not bestow itself upon me in that instant as I hoped it
would. After some trial and error, I concluded meditation was the right place to
start. That was two years ago and my life has changed tremendously since.

To truly experience silence, no matter how short, is to experience peace. I
believe silence is the basis of everything good, the further we distance
ourselves from it the more difficult it is to feel and understand peace and
love. I meditate every day and experience this silence in every moment that I
can.

Now, I am happy every day. I wake up every morning excited for the
tremendous gifts present in my life and for the endless opportunities that lay
before me. I am always looking for silence and I find it now, more often than I
 ever could have imagined.
