Motivation and Meditation: How They Work Together

How do you stay motivated when you are on the grind? It’s usually easy to get started with a new wave of motivation but what happens months down the road when you have years left to achieve your goal? I use meditation to keep my mind calm and reduce mental burnout.

Take a second to look ahead. You do the work day after day, month after month, and year after year just to achieve your goal and realize you have given up your health and you can’t enjoy it. Meditation can bridge that gap. Trust me, whatever amount of time you sit to meditate is not time lost it is a massive gain for you and your goals.

When I started actively pursuing my goals I had trouble sleeping. Most of those sleepless nights were a result of my thoughts never stopping long enough for me to fall asleep. A loop of endless task lists and false fears about what might go wrong. I found a way to help, 10 minutes of meditation before I went to bed made a huge difference. Meditation helped ease that restless mind and led to more consistent sleep. This helped my motivation to get out of bed the next day and move out with the work that needed to be done to reach my goals. I was more focused and clear in my decisions.

Once you get started you have a great cycle going. Meditation clears your mind and helps you focus. That increased focus helps you keep up your motivation. Your increased motivation helps you meditate. Boom, the only thing you need is you!

This is just the tip of the iceberg for what meditation can do for you and your quest. If you need a place to start I have some beginner resources on this site so make sure you check them out.

So what are you waiting for, there is a beast inside you waiting to push you over the limit!

Meditation will help you achieve your dreams. Here’s one reason

What has to happen for you to achieve your dreams? CHANGE, yes I am screaming. Do me a favor, find a time today to sit down and picture yourself as the person you want to be. Picture yourself as if you have achieved your dream in as much detail as you can. Now, write down the things that are different between you now and the achieved dream you. All the things you just wrote down have to change in the physical world! That means you have to change them, you have to change.

This is where meditation can help. I am not just saying that, there are volumes of scientific research to back up that claim.

For now lets talk about how meditation can help you bring on the change you need. Change is stressful for anybody. Meditation, practiced for as little as ten minuets a day, can make long term changes in your brain that will help you deal with stress. I need to say that again, meditation can bring on long term changes in your brain that help you deal with stress! Don’t believe me? Here is an interview with Sara Lazar a Neuroscientist at the Harvard Medical School, the article has links to her research if you want to take a deeper look.

That’s it for now. Of course meditation has many more benefits but stress management is enough to invest ten minuets a day.

Again, it goes like this. If you want to achieve something you have not yet achieved you will have to change. Change is stressful, even if it is fun it is still stressful. Mediation will help you manage that stress.
